Contemporary Art
As I said before, the hardest and most time-consuming part for me is deciding what I'm going to paint and what colors I'm going to use.
As you can see here, I started with a different background. I do this a lot. I start with a certain color only to find that I don´t like the final result, so I change it.
STEP 1
First block in the flower and then the background.
Remember to use the appropriate medium.
Flower: Grumbacher Red + White + a touch of Magenta
Background: To get the color for the final background, mix 3 different shades of Phtalo Blue + White.
Use your gut feeling to decide where you will add the different shades. I have a tendency to add the darker shades towards the bottom of the picture and in areas that would be naturally shaded, such as right under the flower.
Leaves: Sap Green + Lemon Yellow
Don´t leave the blank areas, as I did here. That also was a change-of-mind. Go ahead and fill in the background and leaves so that no bare canvas remains.
STEP 2
Using the same colors for the flower and the leaves, mix lighter and darker shades. Add highlights and shadows using the same blending technique used in the previous demos.
If you enlarge the photos you will see the outline of the veins. I don´t have a very steady pulse so, using an old pen that no longer has any ink in it, I outlined where the veins should be.
I planned to outline them with color later on but as you can see from the final result, I didn´t see the need for it.
ALLOW TO DRY WELL
STEP 3
Use pure White to add more highlights and a darker shade of the Pink to add shadows where needed on the flower. Softly and gently blend. Do the same with the leaves.
STEP 4
Add a pinch of orange to a very small amount of the pink mix to make a Peach color. Then, using the tip of a paper clip, apply both Peach and Pure Lemon Yellow to add what is known as the "beard" of the flower.
Enlarge the photo so that you can get a better view of the result.
You´re done!!!
I hope you enjoyed this demo.
God Bless!!

Notice that I changed the color of the flower from purple to pink.
